This is no secret. It is imperative these days to keep things you post on social networking sites (Facebook, Twitter) PRIVATE. It is extremely easy for a future employer to dig up dirt on your private life if you don't. And those pictures of you blacked out on Friday night? Hide them or at least only allow access to those that you trust. Personally I don't understand HOW someone could make their Facebook page public. Its just stupid. Anyways, that's my ramble. Here is the link to an interesting article about it, though.
PS: Stains always brightens my day hence the pic posted above...
I completely agree with you that this is a matter of common sense. To me how you represent yourself online should be exactly how you present yourself in person. There should be no need to censor anything, just use common sense and share what you would with a stranger or make sure that only those people who know you closest have access to personal information.
ReplyDeleteAgree about censoring yourself and making things public or private. The only worry in the back of my head is that a future employer gains access or hacks the code between public and private. So is it better to leave all damaging material off social networking sites? Maybe, not sure.
ReplyDeleteI love the doggie, and I agree that if you haven't figured out by now how to protect yourself from being googled (or realized that people are going to) then you probably shouldn't be hired for that job.
ReplyDeleteIt's funny reading this because at my job we're encouraged to integrate public and private lives often. I don't keep my Facebook public, but I also don't keep any material that would represent me negatively on it. I use social networks (linkedin, facebook, twitter) EVERY single day at work FOR work so I think if used within a certain industry, they can be helpful and like Jeff said, obviously, common sense is mandatory with this stuff.
