Miracle. I can’t even begin to express the changes that this will cause in the world. Think of all the paralyzed people that will once again be able to move. Words cannot express how cool I think this is.

Project Natal

STUPID. Just go outside and play some actual sports. Fresh air is good for everyone once in a while. There is no substitute for reality.

Augmented Reality

Tech-geeks unite. Another tremendously convenient tool. I feel like this portrays a machine that has a mind of its own. How is it possible to recognize so many things??

  1. I really like trying to understand people who are really obsessive about subcultures. I agree that the "fantastical" elements of steampunk and cosplay are inherently tacky, but these people dedicate so much time and effort in adhering so some sort of set of standards or principles within the dress code. It's bizzare but really intriguing.

  2. I thought Natal was the funniest thing I've ever seen. I've never seen a grown adult so excited to fix an imaginary car. OH BOY I CAN DO MY CHOIRS IN VIDEO GAMES!

  3. Natal makes me sad for the state of the human race. GO OUT AND DO THINGS, DAMMIT.

    That is all.

  4. Natal seems like a freakishly, "big brother" rip off of the Wii....I mean I just don't think this will have much consumer engagement. I think streamlining different media forms can be useful but I don't think Microsoft is the best company to do it and it seems like the audience they're gearing towarads (families) may not even be the right market to target...

  5. Yes, the steam punk aesthetic is not really my cup of tea either. I wonder if it'll become (or already has become) super commercialized to the point where they sell steam punk stuff at hot topic.

  6. Amen to your words on Project Natal, and I think AR is pretty sweet too. I would love to understand the kind of technology that recognizes all of that information from an image of your environment.

To respond to Angela, I think it would be hysterical if people started to buy steampunk clothes at a place like hot topic, but of course that would entirely defeat the purpose of that subculture which revolves around making everything yourself.

  7. I'm a little weirded out by all of this but excited at the same time. Logic is telling me that this is a good thing, this is progress...but be afraid. Be very afraid.

  8. On Augmented Reality- I really hope this machine doesn't have a mind of its own. For me, I don't see it as a convenient tool, just another excessive invention in my mind.
